Today’s Reading

Zechariah 7-9; Luke 13

Key Verse(s)

But they refused to heed, shrugged their shoulders, and stopped their ears so that they could not hear. Yes, they made their hearts like flint, refusing to hear the law and the words which the Lordnof hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. Thus great wrath came from the Lord of hosts.

Zechariah 7:11-12

These are the things you shall do: Speak each man the truth to his neighbor; Give judgment in your gates for truth, justice, and peace; Let none of you think evil in your heart against your neighbor; And do not love a false oath. For all these are things that I hate,’Says the Lord.”

Zechariah 8:16–17.

“Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.” ’ ”

Zechariah 8:23

Just in case you get confused as to what I mean by “Key Verse(s)”, let me explain how I use them. In the “Key Verse(s)” content area, I jot down any verse or passage that made me pause for just a bit to think about it. I call that a verse jumping out at me or a verse that makes me go hmmm. I notate the verse or passage reference, then continue with the daily reading. After I finish the reading for the day, I go back and look over the verse(s) I jotted down in the “Key Verse(s)” content area. As is always the case, one of those verses will stick out a little bit more.

Today’s passage was hard to choose, but choose I must. (my rule) I’m going with the last one, Zechariah 8:23. I liked the concept of being accosted because of one’s tangible goodness. Letting our light shine before men in such a way that other men would see our good works and glorify our Father. (see Matthew 5:16)

I must let the goodness of Christ shine through me in every area of my life. I can’t forget this one point because it is a cornerstone of my life.

Father I pray today that You would help me live in such a way that men would see the work that You have done in me. I get that I am a representative of how Christ can use a surrendered life to show tangible love to those in my circle of influence. Help me to influence folks in the right way. Help me show them your glory.
